Community Opportunities
Your Fire Safe Council

A Fire Safe Council is a coalition of public and private sector organizations that share a common, vested interest in wildfire prevention and loss mitigation. Councils are dedicated to saving lives and reducing fire losses by making their communities fire safe.

There are more than 100 local councils in California (three in Placer County — Greater Auburn Area FSC, Foresthill/Iowa Hill FSC, and Placer Sierra FSC) working to make their communities safer, better places to live by informing residents and organizations about fire safety issues, and assisting them to protect their homes and communities.

Fire Safe Councils work with emergency services to develop an emergency preparedness plan for their community before a wildfire occurs. A Fire Safe Council can:

  • Mobilize people in the community who stand to lose something of value to fire
  • Create a powerful group initiative
  • Save lives, property and money from wildfire
